St. Pierre cited the reason for the fight with de la Hoya being called off

Former UFC champion in two weight categories Canadian George St. Pierre told why he failed to hold a boxing match with the famous American Oscar de la Hoya.

"Our fight with Oscar didn't happen because White didn't give me the green light. Dana hates Oscar. When I left the UFC and finished my MMA career, my contract with the promotion was still in effect. I won't say how many years it was in effect as I don't want to be inaccurate.

When I asked Dana's permission for this fight, he said: "To hell with this guy, to hell with him." That's why our fight didn't happen. Then he called me and said he wanted me to fight Khabib. But Khabib had already retired then, and so had I," the Daily Mail quoted St. Pierre as saying.
