Former world champion and trainer Ukrainian Vyacheslav Senchenko shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between his compatriot Denis Berinchik and Mexican Emanuel Navarrete, at the stake of which will be the vacant WBO lightweight belt.
Earlier it became known that the fight will take place on May 18 in San Diego, California, USA.
"Denis has a good chance to win, because I believe that Navarrete is not a top fighter in this division, but has risen from a lower weight. Overall, I would rate the boxers' chances of winning as 50/50.
Denis' strengths are that he keeps a high pace of the fight, he can change the pattern of the fight, he can work the first number, and he can work on the feet, the second number. His boxing skills are at a high level.
Navarrete is a tall and long-armed boxer that you can work first and pressure against, or you can take him out and work him second. We need to sort out his strengths and weaknesses, to see at what distance he is better and at what distance he feels worse.
Also, the plan for the fight, obviously, will depend on Denis' style, on his strengths. Mexican fighters work at both middle and close range, despite the length of their arms. Here everything will depend on how Denis' team will calculate the opponent and what plan they will make for the fight.
Of course, it's better for Denis to win the fight early, so that there are no questions. But it's possible, if Denis has a significant advantage in the ring, they may give it to him on points. There's no need to get excited about an early victory.
You need to box in your own style and confidently defeat your opponent. This is a title fight, and I think the judges should be neutral to both fighters, and the victory on points can be quite real," - said Senchenko.
