Jorge Clement, the coach of UFC featherweight champion Elijah Topuria, had some advice for his charge's recent opponent, the organization's former featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski.
"Volkanovski deserves a rematch as he has done a lot in MMA. However, if I had to be his trainer or just a friend, I would tell him, 'Look, relax. Go get one more fight to get back on a winning streak, feel good, confident. Win, and then we'll go after Elijah." That would be the most sensible decision in this situation. Sure, Volkanovski deserves it, but I would consider it wrong. He's suffered two defeats, and I don't think he's recovered enough from them to immediately go for a rematch. So right now it's better for him to have a fight with another guy, beat him and gain confidence," BJ Penn quoted Clement as saying.
