Whittaker gave advice to Topuria

Robert Whittaker, a former UFC middleweight champion, responded to the desire of the promotion's newly minted featherweight champion Ilia Topuria fight next against the current league lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

“First of all, Illya needs to make at least one title defense before thinking about fighting another champion. But I’m confident that his fight in Spain will be huge, no matter who he fights,” Whittaker said on the MMArcade Podcast.

Let us remind you that Topuria won the featherweight championship belt by knocking out Alex Volkanovski in the second round. Their fight headlined the 298th UFC tournament, which took place on the night of February 18 in Anaheim.
