Joe Lopez, coach of the former UFC featherweight champion Alexa Volkanovski, commented on the defeat of his ward in a recent battle with Ilia Topuria.
“I’m disappointed with the result. Because I know that Alex has a much better skill set. When he came to his senses, he said: “What happened?” We knew that Elijah had a chance as a puncher - and he took advantage of it,” the Daily Mail quotes Lopez as saying.
The fight between Volkanovski and Topuria took place on the morning of February 18 in Anaheim as part of the main event of UFC 298. Topuria was able to finish Volkanovski in the second round and became the new featherweight champion of the organization. It is worth noting that this defeat was Alex’s second early fiasco in a row.
