Briedis: “I don’t think I lost to Usyk”

Former world heavyweight champion Mairis Briedis spoke about his defeat from the current leader of the heavyweight division Alexandra Usika.

“When I had the fight with Usyk, I don’t think I lost. There was sports politics there, because at that time I didn’t have a promoter. In fact, the promoter helps a lot when he has his own judges and so on.

This is a karmic issue. I am very happy for Usyk. Where is he now and what is he doing? It is unlikely that I would have been able to achieve what he did if there had been a different result at that moment. We fought bone to bone there, and in the last rounds it was so bad that Usyk said that he didn’t understand where he was at all and saw a black picture before his eyes.

I believe that this cannot be called a loss. This is written on paper, but in reality it was completely different. And I’m happy for such a fight,” Briedis said in an interview with the YouTube channel Aija Nagle.

Let us remember that in January 2018, Briedis lost to Usyk by majority decision.
