Former UFC champion in two weight categories, now a commentator and analyst Daniel Cormier expressed the opinion that the title holder in the featherweight division Alexander Volkanovski hastened to accept the duel with Ilia Topuria.
Let us recall that in October last year, the Australian made a second unsuccessful attempt to take the belt from lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, losing by knockout in the first round.
“Remember, after the knockout in the fight with Jones, they called me and offered me a fight at the end of September, but I refused. My brain needed to recover. Volkanovski lost by stoppage to Makhachev in October, but is now fighting in February. I'd say it's too fast. Islam hit him on the head with a bone. That’s what worries me,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel.
The Volkanovski-Topuria fight will headline the UFC 298 show, which will take place on the night of February 18 in Anaheim, USA.
