Former multiple world title contender John Ryder announced his retirement from boxing.

At the end of January, the 35-year-old Briton lost by technical knockout Jaime Munguia. This defeat was John's second in a row - in May last year he lost on points to the holder of all belts in the second middle division Saul Alvarez.

ā€œIt is with a heavy heart that I have decided to hang up my gloves and retire from professional boxing. I have been fortunate enough to have the most amazing career forĀ the last 14 years. I started in Bethnal Green in 2010 and finished in Phoenix, Arizona. I've been lucky enough to box everywhere from the O2 Arena and T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to Alexandra Palace, Manchester Arena and Guadalajara in Mexico. As a guy fromĀ Islington, that's not a bad story.

I may not have become a world champion, but I have achieved and experienced more than I could have imagined when I first put on boxing gloves. I wouldn't trade this for any titles.

Although my professional boxing career is now over, boxing will not get rid of me so easily. Iā€™m looking forward to starting my coaching career,ā€ Mathroom Boxing quotes Ryderā€™s statement.
