Ukrainian junior middleweight boxer Sergei Bogachuk shared his memories of sparring with the illustrious former world champion Gennady Golovkin.
“One day Sanchez put me in a sparring session with Gennady Golovkin. Of course, Abel first warned Gennady. I told him: “Consider that the boy is still young.” But I felt what Golovkin was. I had many sparring partners. But I have never felt such strength as his. Even when he doesn’t put any effort into the blow, when he hits as if lightly, you feel that his fists are like steel. Very heavy, very strong.
I don’t know how to put it into words. But in my career I have never encountered anything like this. This is absolutely true. He is very physically strong. I watched what things he did in the hall. He did such tricks there with weights! And there were super heavyweights, dudes weighing over 100 kg, and they couldn’t do the same physical exercises that he did,” Bogachuk said.
