Paul Felder, a former UFC fighter and current commentator, spoke about the desire of some fighters to win championship belts in two weight categories.
“Belal Muhammad is a contender for the No. 1 title, and Edwards claims he wants to break St. Pierre's record for defenses. Makhachev claims that he is going for the welterweight belt. Guys, stay in your damn divisions! Be the kings there! Let us first establish our greatness before we go after other belts. It used to be different, the only exception was Conor. He was a superstar. Cormier deserved it, as did Amanda Nunes. Now everyone wants to become the owner of two belts. How about doing enough defenses and then going for the second belt?”
