Rakhmonov suffered a serious injury before the fight with Thompson

Undefeated Kazakh UFC welterweight Shavkat Rakhmonov said that he was close to withdrawing from the fight against the American Stephen Thompson on UFC 296.

“I had a very serious injury, I could have refused the fight, but I risked everything. And this is the reason why I did not throw kicks, but only threw knees. Thank God I managed to win.

Hopefully next time I'll be okay. But no matter what injury I have, I will fight until the last drop of blood, because I have to win,” Shavkat said at a press conference.

Let us remember that Rakhmonov defeated Thompson by choke at the end of the second round.
