Rakhmonov: “I don’t remember Thompson being interrupted in a standing position”

Undefeated Kazakh UFC welterweight prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov spoke about the upcoming fight with Stephen Thompson, and also explained why Sambo is a good basic discipline for MMA.

“I don’t remember Thompson getting interrupted, but he misses shots. And I'm not sure he lost by submission. Only Anthony Pettis beat him ahead of schedule.

Why is SAMBO an excellent base for MMA? It is close to mixed martial arts, I competed according to the rules of combat sambo, and we trained everything: boxing, wrestling and everything else. Jiu-jitsu is more effective on the ground, and it is more popular in the world, which cannot be said about sambo,” Rakhmonov said in an interview with the Morning Kombat YouTube channel.

Let us remind you that the Rakhmonov-Thompson fight will take place on the night of December 17 at the UFC 296 tournament in Las Vegas.
