Tracy Cortez is an American mixed martial artist competing in the UFC’s women’s flyweight division. Born on December 10, 1993, in Phoenix, Arizona, she grew up in a household of Mexican immigrants alongside her three brothers. Her introduction to martial arts came at age 14, inspired by her oldest brother, José—whose own MMA aspirations ended tragically when he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2011. That experience, and her brother’s legacy, shaped her early path into the sport, providing both motivation and emotional strength.
Cortez began her amateur MMA journey in regional promotions before turning professional in 2017. She earned a place in the UFC by securing a decisive unanimous decision win on Dana White’s Contender Series in July 2019, which led directly to her contract with the promotion.
She made her UFC debut in November 2019 and has since established herself as a disciplined and well-rounded competitor. Known for her technical striking and persistence, Cortez earned notable victories against seasoned opponents, including Vanessa Melo and Justine Kish. In mid-2024, she stepped in on short notice to face former champion Rose Namajunas in a five-round main event—missing the mark but demonstrating competitive tenacity and commitment to the organization.
Cortez trains out of Phoenix with Fight Ready MMA under coach Santino Defranco, continuing to develop a balanced skill set that includes both striking and grappling. Currently ranked among the UFC's top flyweight contenders, she remains focused on advancing her position within the division.
