Christopher Díaz Vélez (born October 31, 1994) is an American-born Puerto Rican professional boxer known by the nickname “Pitufo” (Smurf). Raised with strong ties to Puerto Rico while born in Philadelphia, Díaz developed as an orthodox southpaw-style (orthodox) fighter in the lower weight divisions and turned professional in late 2013.
Díaz rose through the regional ranks after signing with Top Rank in 2015 and claimed the WBO–NABO junior lightweight title in 2017, establishing himself as a top contender at 130–135 lbs. He has fought a number of high-profile opponents: he captured the vacant WBO-NABO strap, moved up to challenge for world honours (including a 2018 world title bid at junior lightweight and a 2021 challenge for the WBO featherweight title), and has notable wins and competitive losses against opponents such as Masayuki Ito, Shakur Stevenson (on a high-profile card), Isaac Dogboe and Emanuel Navarrete.
Across his professional career Díaz has combined body-work and pressure with a 5'6" frame and a 64" reach, compiling a record that includes more than 30 wins and a high knockout ratio while contesting multiple regional and world-level fights. He remains recognised for his durability and for stepping up repeatedly to world-class opposition during his run through the junior lightweight and featherweight ranks.
