Michael Morales vs. Islam Makhachev at a Future UFC Title Event? Undefeated Prospect Says He Sees a Knockout

Big ambition is nothing new in the UFC, but Michael Morales is making it clear he wants Islam Makhachev if the opportunity ever opens up at a future UFC title event. Speaking recently, the unbeaten welterweight prospect said he would accept a championship fight on the spot and insisted he can knock out the current titleholder. For Morales, the bigger picture is obvious: Ecuador has never produced a UFC champion, and he wants to be the first.

Morales said he is fully prepared for a matchup with Makhachev and would not hesitate if the call came tomorrow. He also pointed to Makhachev’s championship résumé, acknowledging the dominant run the Dagestani star has put together while making the case that his own moment is coming.

The most interesting part of Morales’ comments was his confidence in the striking matchup. He said he does not throw punches just to touch opponents, but to end fights, and that he can genuinely picture himself knocking Makhachev out. That is the kind of statement that will get attention in the American MMA media, especially because so much of the discussion around Makhachev centers on his control, composure and ability to drag opponents into uncomfortable territory over five rounds.

If this fight ever materializes, the stakes would be enormous for both divisions. A Morales win would instantly turn him from rising prospect into one of the sport’s biggest new stars, while also reshaping the title picture around a fresh, dangerous challenger with real finishing power. A Makhachev victory, on the other hand, would only strengthen his standing as one of the most complete champions in the UFC and reinforce the idea that even explosive young contenders are not ready for his level.

Morales last fought in November, when he scored a knockout win over Sean Brady. If he keeps stacking performances like that, talk of a showdown with Makhachev will only get louder — and the next time he speaks on it, fans will be listening even more closely.
