UFC fighter Gerald Meerschaert spoke about a scuffle with Khamzat Chimaev that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"There was a language barrier. He was then mumbling a lot and constantly interrupting me. It would have been better if he interrupted and uttered some crazy nonsense. I remember we met in the hallway during COVID-19—I, Brendan Allen, he and his coaches.
He comes up to me, looks me in the face, and we start chatting all sorts of nonsense. Nobody else is around. Deep down, I think: 'There's nobody here—he's doing this just for the love of the game.' He doesn’t care if there are cameras or not.
In the end, he leaves, and his coaches are like, "Oh, nice to meet you,"—very courteous. I was confused—they are so nice, so why is he like that?" said Meerschaert.
