Recall, at the tournament in Las Vegas, Gaethje won the interim lightweight title by defeating Pimblett by unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46) after five rounds of tough confrontation.
Gamrot, ranked seventh, did not hide his sarcasm in an interview with the Polish publication In The Cage about Pimblett's rapid promotion:
“Here, politics, media, and ticket sales won. UFC tried to push Paddy by any means and make him a champion. Fortunately or unfortunately—Gaethje simply ruined these plans. I think now he’s finally been brought back to earth. He’s become much more accessible to other fighters—including us. Now you can fight him and show where his real place is.”
Gamrot also assessed the technical side of Pimblett's performance in that fight: “It was far from a top level. Dan Hooker summed it up perfectly: Paddy looked like a jumping giraffe holding his hands on his stomach and not understanding what to do in the octagon.”
The Pole, who lost to Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC Fight Night 261 in October, openly expressed his desire to meet Pimblett soon: "It would be great if I got the chance to fight Paddy. Then I could vividly show all the holes in his game."
