Ilia Topuria, UFC lightweight champion, issued an official statement after receiving information that he had been summoned to court on a domestic violence case.
“Yesterday, a media outlet published an article with a false headline claiming that I was summoned to testify in a domestic violence case. This headline was later changed as it did not reflect reality. I have never been summoned to testify for such a reason, although I will, of course, do so voluntarily if needed.
I am required to appear in court, but the summons pertains exclusively to a family and administrative matter related to my daughter leaving Spain, whom I have not been able to see for four months despite numerous attempts.
I accept the demands of being a public figure, but that does not justify the dissemination of unverified false information, distortion of facts, or disclosure of issues concerning a minor who needs protection,” Topuria wrote on social media.
