UFC President Dana White answered the question of why Arman Tsarukyan, who occupies the top spot in the lightweight rankings, was not part of the interim title fight.
"I wouldn't say that Arman is out of the title race, but he had his chance, and you know how it ended. He needs to work to get back into the title fight. And I don't care what place he is in the rankings. He needs to work more.
That's not how it works—you can't miss an opportunity and then ask for the next one. He knows what's what. I don't care what others say—he knows what he needs to do to get a title shot."
