Ecuadorian UFC welterweight Michael Morales stated that he expects to fight divisional champion Islam Makhachev next summer.

"I have already been told that I am a candidate for a title fight. But not now, it's next year. I think the fight is possible in June or July—depends on when Makhachev decides to return.

Makhachev is good. He relies heavily on takedowns and ground control. He definitely has strong points. But he moved into our division at a time of generational change. New top fighters are young and big. If I have to fight Carlos Prates to confirm my contender status—no problem. In our game, every man for himself,” Morales said in an interview with Jorge Masvidal.

Recall that 26-year-old Morales knocked out Sean Brady on November 15 at UFC 322 and improved his professional record to 19-0.
