Reinier de Ridder commented on the defeat in the fight against Brendan Allen.
“On Saturday in the cage, I was not the best fighter, and it stings a lot. But I am grateful not only for the peaks but also for the opportunity to experience the falls. Many people live their lives at a constant 6 out of 10, but we fighters have the opportunity to experience the full range of emotions.
If we ever trained together, you know I work more and harder than anyone else. But over the last two training camps, I might have pushed a little too hard. I was so focused on the title and being ready when the chance came that I stopped listening to my body – and last Saturday it became apparent.
I will not stray from the path, but Daddy is taking a little break, kids. That day I was not myself, but I will become who I should be again. If you know me, you know what I am striving for. Be kind to each other and see you soon.”
