Tom Aspinall, UFC heavyweight champion, shared how the promotion attempted to organize a fight with Jon Jones over the past year.
āLet me tell you something exclusive ā there were numerous times when the UFC matchmakers said something like: āThe fight with Jon Jones is definitely going to happen in the next three months.ā And I would start preparing, a training camp, and I was told that the fight date was pushed back. And that happened three or four times over all this time, and then ultimately he retired. So I wasnāt just sitting idly for a whole year waiting, I actually thought the fight would happen. Thatās why people ask me ā why was I waiting? But I wasnāt waiting, I was just assured that the fight would happen soon, and there was nothing I could do about it. I was tied hand and foot, waiting for a response from the UFC,ā Aspinall said in an interview with TNT Sports.
