Johnson: "Strickland needs to put ego aside and force himself to develop"

Famed American mixed martial arts veteran Demetrious Johnson has some advice for former UFC champion Sean Strickland.

Last weekend at UFC 312 in Sydney, Australia, Strickland lost to current middleweight division titleholder Dricus Du Plessis by unanimous unanimous judges' decision.

"Everyone says I don't like Strickland, but that's not true. I'm just saying what I see. Shawn fights the same style and doesn't back down from it. He's got a great jab, he defends with his shoulder and he's stayed on top for four years because of it.

He can't keep fighting the way he's been fighting. He needs to rest, swallow his pride, put his ego aside and force himself to develop. That's the only way he'll get better. Otherwise, he will be overtaken by younger fighters who are willing to learn new things," Johnson said on his podcast.
