McCarthy calls for a punch banned in MMA to be allowed

Legendary referee John McCarthy would like to see knee strikes to the head in MMA allowed in the parterre.

"I'd like to see knees to the head in the parterre allowed - I think that would be good for the sport. As a sports fan and an official, I say - knee strikes to the head, we're not talking about soccer picks, can be effective in a fight. If a grounded fighter knew he could be attacked with a knee to the head, he would be more active, but right now fighters are using this rule for defense instead of expanding their skills."
