Legendary former UFC and ONE Championship champion Demetrious Johnson announced his retirement from the sport during ONE 168 at Ball Arena in Denver.
"Like I said last time I came to Denver, Colorado, guys, that this might be my last fight, and I didn't lie. I'm done. I'm done competing in mixed martial arts and I want to thank you guys for giving me the opportunity to be here and for your support all these years," Demetrious said.
Johnson, who can still compete in jiu-jitsu events, was inducted into the ONE Championship Hall of Fame following his speech.
The 38-year-old athlete is widely recognized as one of the greatest fighters in combat sports history. Prior to his successful stint at ONE, Johnson was a star in the UFC, holding the record for the most consecutive title defenses at flyweight (11 times) from 2012 to 2018.
