The long-awaited bout between former UFC two-weight champion Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will not take place at UFC 303 on June 29. The promotion's CEO Dana White announced on social media that the star Irishman has withdrawn due to injury.
Because of this, the new main event of the tournament will be a featherweight title rematch between champion Alex Pereira and former belt holder Jiri Prohazka, which was rumored to be scheduled for later this summer. The Brazilian and the Czech first met last November when the reigning champion won by technical knockout.
In addition, co-main event participant Jamal Hill was also ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury, so welterweights Brian Ortega and Diego Lopez took the fight on short notice to fill the void. As for Hill's original opponent Carlos Uhlberg, he remains on the card - he will now face Anthony Smith, who is also out on short notice.
