Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Porier has spoken out about his possible retirement from the sport after an early loss to full belt holder Islam Makhachev.

Today, June 2, in the main event of UFC 302 in Newark, USA, the American lost to the Dagestani with a choke hold in the fifth round.

"I need to digest everything that happened, talk to my family and coaches. I have nowhere to rush. I don't know if I'm quitting yet. Before the fight, I felt it was destiny - regardless of the result. I tried to enjoy the preparation process. I enjoyed the fight tonight.

If I had become champion, I would have been satisfied with my career. But I didn't achieve my goal. I started to perform to become a champion. I need to take a good look at everything. My family wants me to finish my career. But I realize that I can still fight at the top level," said Puryear at the press conference.
