According to Hearn, his fighter is not considering “Big Baby” as an opponent for his return to the ring. The promoter said he hopes the deal for Joshua’s next fight will be finalized as early as this week.
“I don’t think Anthony will face Miller in a comeback fight. I don’t believe he’s the right opponent for AJ. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get the deal done this week,” Hearn said in an interview with the YouTube channel Fight Hub TV.
Hearn stressed that Joshua’s team had previously spoken openly about being willing to face top-level opponents such as Deontay Wilder. But for now, the priority is a smart return after injury layoffs and a mental reset ahead of one of the biggest challenges of the British star’s career.
“Honestly, there will be a lot of nervous people on fight night because so much is at stake — first and foremost, the upcoming fight with Tyson Fury. And it’s not just about us, but also Turki Alalshikh, Netflix, and everyone else involved in the process,” Hearn continued.
“That’s why I think the opponent has to help AJ rebuild and get himself right before the big fight. Hopefully, the announcement comes this week. We’ll see how it plays out,” the promoter concluded.
Earlier, it was reported that Joshua will return to the ring in July.
