WBC interim heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel commented on the upcoming fight between unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and legendary kickboxer Rico Verhoeven.

The German boxer emphasized that he finds this match interesting as a clash between two outstanding athletes from different disciplines. However, he expressed puzzlement as to why the World Boxing Council decided to put its title on the line in this bout.

“An excellent fight between two legends. The last time Rico boxed was in 2014. In my opinion, such fights shouldn't be held for the world champion title. Otherwise, boxing risks losing fan trust in the long term,” he wrote on his Instagram.

The fight between Usyk and Verhoeven is scheduled for May 23 and will take place in Giza, Egypt, at the foot of the famous pyramids.
