British promoter Frank Warren stated that his protégé, interim WBC heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel, does not intend to sit idly by waiting for a possible title fight with unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
"We are not just going to wait for someone to schedule a fight with Usyk. If such an opportunity arises - great, we are ready. But for now, Agit remains active. He is in great shape, and our task is to make sure he continues to box and progress," Warren said.
According to the Queensberry promoter, the next match for the 33-year-old German is already planned for May. And it will not be just a routine defense of the interim belt - the team intends to significantly raise the scale of the event.
"His January fight in Oberhausen (a knockout victory over Damian Knaba) was a sold-out event and showed huge public interest in Germany. Therefore, in May, we are moving to an even larger arena. This will be a big step forward for Agit and for German boxing as a whole," Warren concluded.
