Former super middleweight world champion and one of the most recognizable British experts, Carl Froch, spoke about the most discussed hypothetical fight in the heavyweight division - a possible meeting between unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and prospect Moses Itauma.
In a recent episode of his YouTube show Froch On Fighting, the 43-year-old ex-champion candidly admitted: he is a huge fan of Usyk and sees him as a clear favorite even against such a promising and physically powerful opponent as the 21-year-old Itauma.
"I would really love to watch this fight. A young, fresh, explosive, incredibly powerful guy against one of the greatest masters of our time - it looks very interesting," said Froch. "But right now, I definitely would not put Moses against Usyk. Oleksandr is incredibly good. He has enormous experience: hundreds of amateur fights, titles in two weight categories, victories over top heavyweights. Itauma still lacks this background considerably. Therefore, Usyk would beat him now, and quite confidently."
At the same time, Froch stressed that he does not consider Itauma hopeless for the future. The Briton called a fight with Usyk "an ideal exam and springboard" for the young heavyweight... if it takes place in 2-3 years, when Moses gains the necessary number of serious fights.
"For now, rushing him into such a match means risking breaking the career of one of the most talented prospects of the generation," Froch concluded.
