Toney: "Usyk is a mediocre boxer. There are simply no greats right now"

Former three-division champion James Toney once again did not hold back in his assessment of modern boxing. In a fresh interview with Fight Hub TV, the famous American harshly criticized heavyweight division leader Oleksandr Usyk and the entire current generation of heavyweights.

Despite the fact that Usyk has already managed to unify the belts, defeat Tyson Fury, and join the ranks of the most titled heavyweights of the 21st century, Toney refuses to rank the Ukrainian in the pantheon of greats.

"Usyk is good, but he is mediocre. He is not great. of the modern boxers are among the greatest fighters of all time. And none of them will become one. Sorry, but this is not my era. They don't fight with anyone. They don't want to fight. You become great only when you fight great opponents," Toney said.

According to the ex-champion, the current heavyweights avoid real tests of strength, and without a series of significant wars with top opponents, it is impossible to enter the historical top. Toney traditionally nostalgizes about his time when, according to him, the elite regularly fought amongst themselves instead of choosing "convenient" matches.

Recall that Usyk held his last fight in July, when he knocked out Daniel Dubois.
