Jake Paul found himself in the ring with Anthony Joshua at Miami's Kaseya Center at the end of 2025, marking a significant pivot in his boxing career. Known initially as a YouTuber, Paul bravely faced former heavyweight champion Joshua but suffered his first knockout loss.

During the match, Paul experienced severe consequences. He sustained a broken jaw which required surgery. Now he bears four plates as part of his recovery process. He admits the journey back to health is challenging, especially when it comes to sleeping comfortably.

"I've got four plates in my jaw and the healing process has been tough. I'm a little bit tired, it's hard to sleep. It's all part of the sport and it was an amazing night. I learned a lot and we're moving on to more fights this year."

Despite his positive outlook, Paul plans to focus on recovery until mid-2026 with no final decision about his future fight strategy.

Critics had their doubts about Paul's decision to fight Joshua. Before the bout, many questioned if he was ready for such a leap in competition. That leap won him respect but also prompted concerns about future opponents.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan added his voice to those disquieted by Paul's choices.

"The risk-to-reward ratio simply isn't worth it, especially given the physical damage Paul absorbed,"
Rogan advised post-fight.

Daniel Cormier also suggested caution regarding potential matches with dangerous fighters like Francis Ngannou.

"Francis doesn't know, Jake. Francis doesn't know how to control and make sure the punches don't put your lights out. I think he needs to reconsider,"
warned Cormier, reflecting genuine concern despite past disagreements with Paul.

The critics acknowledge Paul's determination but fear for what lies next if he continues down this path without measured consideration of his adversaries' capabilities. The road ahead calls for calculated decisions from Paul regarding both preparation and opponent selection.
