After an atypical VADA test result for clenbuterol in Erika Cruz, Amanda Serrano's team decided not to fight her on January 3rd. Now, instead, Serrano will meet with Reina Tellez at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum arena in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
“An atypical test” means that additional analysis is required to determine its finding, and that it is not yet possible to reliably assert the presence of prohibited substances in the test. Cruz also failed a doping test for steroids in May 2024, which cost her the WBA super bantamweight title.
“Although her team claims it was contamination from something she ate, who can determine that if they didn’t check the meat, which she says she ate?” said Jordan Maldonado, Serrano's manager. “It cannot be established in conversation. An investigation is necessary, and there is no time for that.”
“The new opponent is younger than Amanda, she has a positive track record, and she is better than Erika in boxing. It's a more dangerous fight,” added Maldonado. “There is a silver lining. I want to see a woman who will come out to fight and try to beat Amanda, not just survive. I want to see a war in the ring. I want Puerto Rico to see Amanda Serrano giving her all in every round.”
