O’Shaquie Foster (24-3, 12 KO) vacated his WBC interim lightweight title, which he won in a bout against Stephen Fulton (23-2, 8 KO) last Saturday, and will focus on continuing his career in the 59 kg weight class. This is stated in the official decree of the Council, which was issued on Thursday. It is also indicated that Foster will receive an additional advantage: "special privileges in lightweight."
Recall that the American was supposed to defend his title in the second featherweight category on Saturday, but his opponent exceeded the permissible weight by a whole kilogram. The WBC decided not to waive its part of the fee for sanctioning the fight and decreed that there will now be an interim lightweight title at stake. At the same time, the Council was not bothered that at the end of November, during the annual convention, it was decided that the previously scheduled eliminator bout between Ricardo Nunez and Javier Herrera on January 10 in Düsseldorf, Germany, would still have the same interim lightweight title at stake.
Foster demonstrated masterful form, secured a convincing victory, and added the interim WBC Lightweight Champion title to his WBC Super Featherweight Champion title.
Immediately after his victory, Foster called for a fight with current WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson. This fight was unlikely to happen since Stevenson was already set to face WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez on January 31 in New York.
