Crawford, who holds an unbeaten record of 42-0, didn't hold back in expressing his anger during an Instagram live stream. He questioned the WBC's decision harshly, saying,
"Who the hell do you think I am? You better slap yourself. I'm not going to pay you. What are you talking about? What makes you f***ing better than the other organizations?"His frustration was palpable as he continued by challenging Mauricio Sulaiman, chairman of the WBC, on social media about this treatment and assumptions regarding his earnings fight with Alvarez.
On the other side of things, Sulaiman explained that due to multiple missed communications with Crawford and his team, the WBC found itself with no choice but to act. According to him, Canelo Alvarez tops contenders like Christian Mbili and Hamzah Sheeraz simply due to his status when he can return after surgery.
"He (Canelo) had surgery...He is number one and will be ready for when he notifies us that he is in a position to return to fight,"stated Sulaiman.
Alvarez carries an impressive record of 63 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws. Once ready post-recovery, regaining the WBC belt could mark another milestone in Alvarez’s storied career.
