Claressa Shields wants to clear the air about her support for Angel Reese, despite all the rumors saying otherwise. The professional boxer set the record straight following the 2025 BET Awards, where Reese snagged the Sportswoman of the Year award.

Some wondered if Shields felt overshadowed by Reese's win. After the awards, Shields took to social media, expressing surprise about not winning and hinted that her accomplishments may have been overlooked. She tweeted congratulations to Reese while questioning why accolades didn't seem to count in her favor.

In an interview with Club Shay Shay, Shields emphasized that she harbors no ill will towards Reese and expressed admiration instead. In her statement on the show, Shields said:

"No, I hate when people, like, when they spin narratives. That, like, really gets on my nerves. I think that would mean they want to spin everything and make it into something negative. I like what she is doing. Posted her on my page before."

Determined to quash any lingering doubts about her stance, she added that it bothers her when people try to create conflict where there isn’t any. Shields voiced admiration for Reese’s dedication and drive:

"It wasn't nothing against Angel, and I hate that they tried to pit me against her when it's like I'm a fan of Angel Reese. She's young and she's hungry, and I see her wanting to get better. And honestly I don't know who get more hate—me or her."

Angel Reese played a pivotal role in Chicago Sky’s performance on the court and caught attention beyond basketball too, garnering recognition from BET for influencing sports fans across various arenas.

Reese showed gratitude after her BET win at the 2025 ceremony which gathered nominees including A'ja Wilson and Simone Biles. Taking center stage during the awards night accepted it humbly:

"I put my all in this sh-. I do,"
shared Reese while reflecting on dedication to basketball.

As these sports professionals navigate public perception amid their careers’ highs and lows alike—here’s hoping both athletes continue excelling without pitting talents unfairly against each other—for fans know there's room aplenty applauding each achievements from up-and-coming stars making strides ahead!
