While filming "Christy," which premiered on November 7, Sweeney found herself captivated by boxing. During production, she even considered trading acting for a shot at a boxing career. She revealed, “There was a moment in the middle of filming where I thought, 'Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?'"
Shields enthusiastically addressed Sweeney's interest and offered her expert guidance with some encouraging words.
"If she played Christy Martin and I heard she did MMA back in her younger years... hell, why not? If she needs some help training, girl, call me! I'll give you some G.W.O.A.T. tips."
In another display of camaraderie, Shields expressed her joy over Martin's biopic release.
"I'm happy that Christy Martin got her biopic; she deserves it. In women's boxing, the only two real biopics are me and Christy. There's Million Dollar Baby, but that's not real. So congrats to Christy and congrats to Sydney."
Sweeney took her role seriously and reportedly gained 15 kilograms to accurately embody Martin's physicality. Her dedication impressed many and deepened her connection to boxing.
Going further into what boxing brings beyond physical prowess, Shields shared wisdom from inside the ring.
"The jab is the most powerful punch in boxing…and anybody that's stronger than you hit them in the stomach."
Furthermore, Shields commented on the broader life lessons fighting can impart.
"Win, lose or draw, you learn something about yourself in the ring. It teaches discipline, confidence, and strength in ways nothing else can."
With Shields keen to share her expertise and Sweeney open to embarking on a potential new chapter within sports entertainment or charity bouts alike—exciting paths lie ahead for both incredibly talented women if they decide to work together on this journey.
