Molly McCann won her first professional boxing match. The former UFC fighter stopped Kate Radomska in the final round of their six-round super bantamweight bout at Windsor Park in Belfast.
McCann, a 35-year-old from Liverpool, kept pushing forward throughout the fight. She mixed body shots with straight rights and looked more comfortable as the rounds went on. In the second round, Radomska seemed to kick out when pressed against the ropes, but McCann didn't let it bother her and kept up the pressure.
The fifth round saw McCann score a knockdown with a sharp right hand. By the final round, Radomska's corner had seen enough and threw in the towel, giving McCann the TKO victory.
After the fight, McCann told BBC Radio 5 Live:
"It didn't even feel as tough as sparring. I didn't get out of second gear, and that was nice."
She compared the experience to taking a driving test, saying she felt tense at the start but relied on muscle memory to stay in control.
McCann's move to boxing comes after her MMA career in the UFC ended with a loss at London's O2 Arena in March. She's now signed with Matchroom Boxing and has been training in Liverpool. Former undisputed champion Josh Taylor, who's been working with McCann, had high praise for her progress:
"She's improved massively. With another couple of fights, she could be knocking on the door for a title shot."
With her loyal fan base and strong start in the super bantamweight division, McCann is set up for bigger challenges in the boxing world. She's ready to face whatever comes next head-on.
