Floyd Mayweather Jr. faces a fraud lawsuit in Miami. Jayson Winer claims the former boxing champion made false promises about access to Elon Musk in exchange for money and luxury items.
Winer, who goes by the alias Mr. Black, says he paid $1 million for a text introduction to Musk that never happened. He also handed over two watches worth more than $160,000 and $20,000 in cash for a video call with Musk that didn't occur. Someone connected to Mayweather picked up these items from Winer's home.
"It's been almost a year since it happened and my life hasn't been the same since," Winer told reporters.
Winer, a digital art seller, had his account on X suspended, stopping him from selling over 21,000 pieces of digital art. The lawsuit also names Jona Rechnitz as a co-defendant. Rechnitz pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in 2016 and served as a witness in New York corruption cases.
Mayweather has publicly defended Rechnitz, calling him a friend and trusted partner. The boxing legend claimed he trained Musk for a 'cage fight' against Mark Zuckerberg that never happened. There's no evidence Musk knew about any arrangements made on his behalf.
Mayweather's support for Donald Trump in 2024 supposedly improved his relationship with Musk. Right now, Mayweather gets ready for an exhibition fight against Mike Tyson in 2026. This scandal raises questions about both his sporting legacy and his reputation outside the ring.
