Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, is coming off a controversial win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. He's now moving on to face Davis, one of boxing's most explosive stars.
Mike Coppinger shared some details about the upcoming bout. He said:
"I would expect similar exhibition rules for the weigh-in here. And obviously much bigger gloves"
These rules could include weight limits and heavier gloves. They'll help balance out the natural size difference between the two fighters.
This tactic isn't new. In 2021, Mayweather used similar restrictions against Logan Paul. 'Money' couldn't weigh more than 160 pounds, while Paul had a 190-pound limit. This approach drained some of Paul's physical edge.
For Paul vs Davis, every pound will matter. The fight promises to be as much about strategy outside the ring as inside it. These weight rules could neutralize Paul's physical strength.
Before this match got made, there was talk of Paul fighting Anthony Joshua. But that idea got shut down pretty quick. Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, made it clear they weren't interested in any exhibition-style event. He said:
"If we take this fight, it's a real fight. We're not going to go in like an exhibition or a YouTube match. AJ will prepare as if he was fighting a world champion"
Paul didn't want a formal fight with Joshua, so that option fell through. Now, all eyes are on the November showdown with Davis. It's shaping up to be quite the spectacle.
