Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are getting ready for a big fight. They'll face off for the undisputed super-middleweight championship on Saturday, September 13, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Crawford's moving up in weight for this fight. He's jumping from welterweight all the way to super-middleweight at 168 pounds. It's a big leap, but Crawford's no stranger to success. Last year, he became the undisputed welterweight champion, showing he's got what it takes to dominate a division.
On the other side of the ring, we've got Canelo. At 35, the fighter from Guadalajara, Mexico, is still at the top of his game. He just beat William Scull on May 3, grabbing all four world title belts at 168 pounds for the second time. That's something no other fighter has done before.
But not everyone's convinced Canelo's as scary as he seems. Caleb Plant, who used to hold the IBF super-middleweight title and lost to Canelo in 2021, had some interesting things to say about Canelo's punching power. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Plant said:
"I mean, you know it's like 'the first punch he's gonna hit you with, your ribs are gonna explode' but then I started feeling some of his shots and I'm like 'oh this isn't like, you know' and again obviously, the outcome in the end was I didn't make it to the final bell but in the moment, you know a lot those punches that were touching me or you know hit my arms or if I would roll one off or get caught with one here or there. It's not like you know something where I was like 'oh man' you know petrified or something like that but in the end you know he got the job done."
Plant's basically saying Canelo's punches weren't as terrifying as people make them out to be. But he admits Canelo still managed to stop him before the fight ended.
Since losing to Canelo, Plant's had a rough time. He's lost two more fights, with his latest defeat coming in a split decision against Armando Resendiz. At 33, the Tennessee native's future in the sport is uncertain.
The stage is set for an exciting fight between Canelo and Crawford. Crawford's moving up in weight, Canelo's defending his titles, and fans can't wait to see how it all plays out in Las Vegas.
