Manny Pacquiao's return to the ring ended in a draw against Mario Barrios. The 46-year-old Filipino legend came back after four years away to face the reigning WBC welterweight champion on July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The judges couldn't separate the two fighters after 12 rounds. Two scorecards read 114-114, while one judge gave it to Barrios 115-113. Many people watching thought Pacquiao had done enough to win.
Roy Jones Jr, a former champion in four weight classes, shared his thoughts on the fight. He believes Pacquiao should have gotten the nod.
"I thought he [Pacquiao] won the fight and against a person like the guy he just fought, I would love to see him back again."
Jones Jr even thinks Pacquiao could still become a world champion again. When asked about it, he said:
"I think he should be world champ right now but, you know, it happens."
If Pacquiao had won, he would have broken his own record as the oldest welterweight champion ever. Now, his future in boxing isn't clear. There's talk of a rematch with Barrios, but nothing's set in stone.
Another option for Pacquiao could be a fight with Rolando 'Rolly' Romero, the current WBA Champion. Both fighters seem interested in making that happen.
Pacquiao's comeback fight showed he can still hang with the best, even at 46. Whether he decides to keep fighting or not, his performance against Barrios proved he's still got what it takes to compete at the highest level.
