Alvarez started his professional journey at the tender age of 15 back in 2005. Since then, he's faced a who's who of boxing talent, racking up an impressive record with only two losses to his name. His most recent big win came against William Scull, cementing his status as a two-time undisputed super-middleweight champ.
In a candid chat on the MILLION DOLLAZ WORTH OF GAME show, Alvarez reflected on his career's toughest challenges.
"I have a lot of them but I think my [most] difficult fight was with Floyd Mayweather."
This admission takes us back to 2013 when Alvarez suffered his first professional loss. Mayweather took Canelo's WBC light-middleweight title in a majority decision, a fight that clearly left a lasting impression on the Mexican fighter.
But Mayweather wasn't the only name on Alvarez's list of tough opponents. When asked about his hardest fights, he didn't hesitate:
"Hardest fights with [Gennady] Golovkin, maybe."
Alvarez and Golovkin shared the ring three times, battles that seem to have tested Canelo to his limits.
Alvarez's only other loss came more recently in 2022. He moved up to light-heavyweight to challenge Dmitry Bivol for the WBA title but fell short in a unanimous decision.
Looking ahead, Alvarez is gearing up for what could be one of the toughest tests of his career. He's set to face Terence Crawford on Saturday, September 13, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Both fighters are considered pound-for-pound greats, setting the stage for an epic showdown.
The stakes are high for this upcoming bout, with reports of potential knockout bonuses adding extra spice to the mix. As Alvarez prepares to step into the ring once again, fans are eager to see if Crawford will join the ranks of Mayweather and Golovkin as one of Canelo's toughest opponents.
