Manny Pacquiao wants to fight Gervonta Davis. The Filipino icon made this clear after his recent bout with Mario Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao, the eight-division world champion, returned to the ring after a four-year break. He fought Barrios to a draw in a WBC world welterweight championship match. At his age, he nearly became the oldest world welterweight champion.
Before the Barrios fight, Pacquiao told Seconds Out he's ready to face anyone, including Davis.
"I can fight anybody, even like Gervonta Davis … I'm not scared of anybody. I like that fight [against Davis], I like that."
Davis, known as "Tank," is the current WBA world lightweight champion. The 30-year-old from Baltimore last fought in March, when he kept his title against Lamont Roach Jr. Davis has a perfect record and knocks out 90% of his opponents.
After the Barrios fight, Pacquiao said he plans to keep fighting. This opens the door for a possible match with Davis.
A fight between Pacquiao and Davis would pit a boxing legend against one of the sport's rising stars. It's a clash that fans would love to see, matching Pacquiao's experience against Davis' power.
Davis was set to fight Roach again, but those plans might change now. The boxing world will watch closely to see if this dream match between Pacquiao and Davis becomes a reality.
