Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr are at it again. The two boxing icons have been trading words, and now it looks like they might trade punches.
Bernard Hopkins, who fought Jones Jr twice in his career, shared his thoughts on the feud with Seconds Out. When asked who'd win in a fight between Mayweather and Jones Jr, Hopkins kept it simple: "It all depends on who throws punches more."
The beef heated up when Mayweather shared a video of Jones Jr getting knocked out. Hopkins saw this as an attempt to show Jones' vulnerabilities. But "The Alien" was quick to defend his former opponent:
"Roy Jones' rewards in his victories supersede 10 times his defeats. Roy Jones' longevity of victories and unique style will overshadow his defeats."
Hopkins knows Jones Jr well. They first met in 1993 for the vacant IBF middleweight title, with Jones Jr coming out on top. Seventeen years later, Hopkins got his revenge in a light heavyweight clash.
Jones Jr's unorthodox style made him a boxing icon. It's a style we'll probably never see again. Now, he's challenging Mayweather to a fight to settle their differences.
Hopkins had some advice for both fighters: "Make sure you get paid if you fight."
Female boxing star Claressa Shields also chimed in on the potential matchup, though her thoughts weren't shared in detail.
As the war of words continues, fans are left wondering if these two legends will actually step into the ring. If they do, it'll be a clash for the ages.
