Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. are getting ready for another lightweight bout. The rematch might happen before the end of the year, but nothing's official yet.
Two-weight world champion Timothy Bradley thinks Roach will give Davis a tougher fight this time around. He shared his thoughts while talking about the upcoming Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda match.
"Roach ain't playing with Tank, he don't give a damn about Tank's power, he's coming to get Tank and it's going to be worse this time, I promise you. It's going to be worse [for Tank] this time, there's been a lot going on."
The first fight between Davis and Roach on March 1 ended in a majority decision draw. Davis kept his WBA world lightweight title, but Roach made it a close call. In the ninth round, Roach forced Davis to take a knee. The referee, Steve Willis, didn't call it an official knockdown. This mistake might have cost Roach his chance to hand Davis his first career loss.
Bradley didn't hold back when talking about Davis's recent performance:
"Now everybody wanna bring up 'He can't beat Tank', Tank can't even catch a Roach, he can't even beat a Roach or kill a Roach, y'all talking about Shakur and Shakur can't beat no Tank, y'all tripping, Tank need to worry about Roach, that's what he need to worry about."
The rematch was originally set for August 16 in Las Vegas, but that's not likely to happen now. Davis got arrested on domestic violence charges, which has thrown a wrench in the plans.
Fans will have to wait for an official announcement about when these two will step into the ring again. One thing's for sure - their next meeting will be one to watch.
