Tyson Fury thinks Mike Tyson would beat Oleksandr Usyk in a fantasy fight between the two heavyweight greats. The current WBC champion shared his thoughts on this hypothetical matchup between two smaller heavyweights.
Usyk started his career as a cruiserweight and became the undisputed champion there before moving up to heavyweight. He's had an impressive run, beating Derek Chisora, stopping Daniel Dubois, and besting Anthony Joshua twice on points. Usyk even defeated Fury himself twice by decision.
Mike Tyson, on the other hand, was a much-feared knockout artist in his prime. He became the youngest ever heavyweight world champion at 20 and knocked out his first 19 opponents, with 12 of those coming in the first round.
When asked about this fantasy matchup, Fury said to Mail Sport Boxing:
"That's a tough one. Both prime? I'm going to go with my boy Mike."
Fury's choice is interesting, considering Usyk beat him twice. But he still believes prime Tyson would come out on top.
Tyson initially retired in 2005 but made a comeback in 2022 for an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr. In 2023, he returned to professional boxing against Jake Paul. The 58-year-old Tyson lost that fight on points, showing his age.
Meanwhile, Usyk's career continues to flourish. He's set to fight IBF champion Daniel Dubois next, giving him a chance to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight ruler.
While we'll never know how this fantasy fight would've played out, it's fun to imagine these two heavyweight legends facing off in their prime.
