Devin Haney has made his thoughts clear on the upcoming rematch between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. The undisputed lightweight champion predicts Eubank Jr will come out on top again.
The first fight between Benn and Eubank Jr took place in April after years of bad blood and build-up. Originally set for October 2022, the bout got cancelled when Benn tested positive for a banned substance. When they finally met in the ring, it came after egg slaps, missed weights, and plenty of trash talk.
Eubank Jr won by unanimous decision. Benn started aggressively but couldn't get the early knockout he wanted. As the fight went on, Eubank's natural size advantage became clear. Both fighters ended up in the hospital after the tough, physical battle, with Eubank staying there for days.
In a recent interview with Seconds Out, Haney shared his thoughts on the rematch:
"I think Eubank won the first one, I think he'll win the second one."
Haney also expressed interest in fighting Benn himself, but with a condition:
"Yeah, I want him to come down to 147 and we can talk about it. Right now I've only seen him at 160. He can come down to 147 and make the weight, and then yeah I'd love to do it."
The Eubank Jr vs Benn rematch is set for September at 160 lbs. Benn has stated he'll be able to make 147 lbs after this fight, potentially opening the door for a clash with Haney.
As for Haney, he's got his own fight coming up. He'll face Brian Norman Jr in a world title challenge at 147 lbs this November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
