Manny Pacquiao's getting ready to step back into the boxing ring. The 46-year-old Filipino legend will face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao's been away from professional boxing for four years. He last fought in June 2021, losing to Yordenis Ugas. After that fight, Pacquiao decided to hang up his gloves and focus on his political career.
The former eight-division world champion's got some impressive records under his belt. In 2019, at 40 years old, he became the oldest welterweight champion when he beat Keith Thurman for the WBA title.
But his last fight didn't go as planned. After losing to Ugas, Pacquiao apologized to his fans. In a post-fight interview, he said:
"I'm so thankful to the fans [for] coming here to witness the fight live, I'm really appreciative of your effort to come here even despite this pandemic you have time to watch the fight live, and I'm sorry that we lost tonight but you know, I did my best and I apologise."
Now, Pacquiao's aiming to make history again. He wants to become the oldest world welterweight champion. It's a big goal, and he's taking a big risk at his age.
But Pacquiao looks to be in great shape. Fans are excited to see him back in action, even though some worry about him fighting at 46.
